The Bulldogs arrived in Memphis still riding high from back-to-back victories including the overtime win I the Egg Bowl to get bowl eligibility. Rice arrived at 10-3 and were the trendy pick to pull the upset and deliver the SEC their first loss of the bowl season. However, the Bulldogs showed up ready to play and flexed some serious SEC muscle.
Rice got the first score to take a 7-0 lead against the Bulldogs and the Bulldogs also did Rice an early favor by fumbling the football on what would have been a big play but from that point on the Bulldogs absolutely dominated the game.
The stats show that dominance. Mississippi State had 27 first downs, 294 yards passing and 239 yards rushing while racking up 44 points. Rice had 7 first downs, 84 yards passing and 61 yards rushing. It was the Bulldogs most dominating all season as an offense. It was also the most dominating individual performance of the season by a Bulldog player - Dak Prescott.
The sophomore played the best game of his career and showed some big time flashes that should make all Bulldog fans fired up for 2014. He was 17-28 for 283 yards and 3 TD's. He also ran the ball 14 times for 78 yards and 2 TDs. It was what the fans had been waiting for all season when the teams biggest liability had been the play at the quarterback position.
Now the Bulldogs head into the offseason with some positive momentum and the SEC momentum continues with the Bulldogs leading the SEC to a 2-0 record.
